I'm a big fan of Julie Morris, I am so in love with her first book, "Superfood Kitchen", I cook from it almost every day and consider it the most valuable cookbook I own, so of course I was very excited to get my copy of "Superfood Smoothies"! I am truly amazed but not surprised that she turned out yet another masterfully written and beautifully composed book of awesome recipes. Not only are the smoothie recipes REALLY TASTY, but they are so creative and very thoughtfully concocted to maximize health, flavor, and texture. My favorites that I've tried so far are: cranberry orange (using frozen whole cranberries and OJ), acai pumpkin (yum! creative use for canned pumpkin puree), and cacao cream. There are so many more I can't wait to try!

I first started trying to turn around my health about a year ago by making green smoothies in my $30 blender, mixing frozen blueberries, banana, chia seeds, kale and almond milk every morning for breakfast. I have since upgraded to a vitamix, which makes it easier and more enjoyable to blend my daily smoothie! This book is helping me expand my smoothie repetoire so I can never, ever be bored with my smoothie!

I have also slowly expanded my superfood pantry over the last year, and wanted to pass on some tips for locating ingredients and finding good deals. Many of the negative reviews for this book seemed like the reason was because they couldn't find the ingredients or they were too expensive, which are completely bogus reasons for poorly reviewing this incredible book!! They are easy to find AND affordable if you have access to the internet!!! I live in an extremely rural isolated area, 1.5 hours drive to the nearest sizeable town with health food stores, but I buy most of the superfood ingredients online and I get much better deals than I would in stores.

Bottom line, if you buy this book (AND "Superfood Kitchen" while you're at it!), you are well on your way to make super nutritious MAGIC happen in your kitchen!!

If you're a novice smoothie maker, you will really appreciate how Julie took the time to go through the steps of smoothie making in great detail and will be introduced to amazing smart combinations. If you, like me, have been making smoothies pretty much everyday for the last 10 years, have exhausted your creativity to combine ingredients and could use some really unique, tasty and nutritious recipes, you will absolutely love this book.

Superfoods may sound foreign if you haven't used them before and you don't necessarily need to buy every single superfood out there, you can certainly leave out the superfood suggestions for many of the recipes and still end up with a vibrant and nutritious drink. Some of the superfoods can be expensive but a bit goes a long way. Julie provides excellent information on each superfood, how, where and what form to buy, benefits, serving size and substitutions.

I got this book on a Saturday and on the next day I basically ended up doing a smoothie day, each recipe I tried was so delicious, so full of flavor and was packed with so many nutrients that I kept wanting to try more recipes :-) Everything I've tried so far was absolutely amazing, really love this book, there are combinations of ingredients that I would have never though of after so many years making smoothies.

** Update: Yesterday I started to explore one of the chapters called superfood shots,they are small, highly condensed smoothies, what a fantastic idea! Yesterday I had one called 'Stress recovery', there is one for energy boost, one for fighting cold... Really interesting ideas!

I have ordered different Smoothies as I've ventured out for the day, and have also been invited to join friends in relaxing, and enjoying Smoothies. A very popular trend, but I also noticed the prices for Smoothies in malls and stores have gone up. Julie Morris shares 100 recipes of healthy, delicious Smoothies. I received a new blender recently as a gift, and now am building my own collection of Smoothie recipes for family, friends, and social gatherings. These recipes are tasty, and there is a huge selection to choose from. I noticed that when I do enjoy a Smoothie, I quickly fill-up, and avoid junk food cravings, which is another positive sign. The different fruit flavors are inviting, Smoothies help to boost energy, and are nutritious. This book was inexpensive, and worth every penny. It's the best Smoothie book I have purchased thus far. In addition to 100 recipes of delicious Smoothie recipes, this book is also informative. The author discusses Smoothie Essentials, How much Smoothie should one drink, the nutritional rewards of Smoothies, and more. There are stunning, colorful photos that are inviting. Included in this amazing book are: fruit & Light; Green & Vibrant; Rich & Creamy; Stealth Blends; Superfood Shots. There is also information about storing Smoothies, charts, guides, and resources. My favorite Smoothie recipes thus far are CHOCOLATE MINT, MANGO COCONUT,BLACKBERRY VANILLA, and BANANA OAT. However, every week I will try a new recipe for me, and my daughter. An update: We tried the CHOCOLATE HAZELNUT; MULBERRY LAVENDER; MANGO GINGER; and the STRAWBERRY CHAMOMILE. Absolutely no complaints, very tasty choices indeed. In fact, I will be ordering more copies of this delightful, fun-filled book for birthday and holiday gifts. I am impressed by the low price of this book, and the superior quality of its contents. We will provide additional updates as we try new Smoothie recipes. At present, we are very satisfied. I love this treasure of a book! A perfect gift for friends, and family. Highly recommended!

This is one of the best books that I have read on the topic of superfoods, and one of the best I have read on healthy eating in general! What I really like about it is it's usefulness. At the end of the book is a very convenient list of important foods to buy at your local grocery store. This REALLY simplifies things for me. Instead of having to find out for myself how to make use of the new information I have learned, the work is done for me. It might not seem like much at first look, but it is. It saves a lot of time and helps me avoid mistakes in interpretation. Whether you are looking for Shiitake Mushrooms or Asparagus, this book will help you evaluate your diet in a quick and reliable way, helping you increase the number or rejuvenating foods and cutting down on dead weight. Make no mistake, this not just a grocery shopping list. It is a profoundly scientific and lifestyle oriented book, based on key scientific knowledge and personal values. However it goes out of the way to be user friendly in a way that many others books don't. I found that very useful in actually making use of the information in the book, I hope you do too!

We love the format of Superfoods: The 101 Best Foods to Live Longer and Feel Younger because after a detailed introduction, every single good, healthy food here is listed and explained in depth. The foods are organized alphabetically for easy reference. At each food item, the reasoning and science behind the health of that food is described, in detail enough to explain the "reason why" to you but not so much scientific and medical goop to lose us. (By the way, there are more than 101 here! The author seems to like over-delivering which we won't argue with!)

The COOLEST part of the book is the back where you get the Handy List for Shopping for the 101 Best Superfoods. I hate shopping but I REALLY hate grocery shopping. I can never find what I want and now that I will be loaded with a list of foods I have not bought much of in the past this shopping list helps a lot because it enables me to highlight what I need, organized by grocery section, and just go down my list - YES I will take my Kindle to the grocery store tonight! - and I'll fill my basket efficiently! Highly recommended!

Short and Sweet - Worth 99 cents by Albert J. Valentino
This SHORT book is basically a list of a 100+ superfoods that are very good for you. I mention, short, so you know exactly what you are getting. The book includes an Introduction that is a few pages long followed by the list of superfoods in alphabetical order (so there is no TOC), along with a single paragraph describing why that food is on the list. At the end there is a list of the foods sorted by type - like Produce, Nuts, Meat, Canned.... Definitely worth the price but if you are looking for a detail on each food you will have to research that somewhere else - which is not a bad thing considering the most important part is learning about what foods should be on a Best List, the devil is in the details.

This isn't normally a book I would pick up but I feel so blessed that I did. The text outlines a fascinating list of delicious "superfoods" that good for you. It also gives quite a bit of detail on why these foods are beneficial to your well-being. I don't think any household should be without a priceless resource like this. Highly recommended!

David Wolfe: The goji berry is a complete protein source with extraordinary levels of antioxidants, levels of carotenes (according to studies, the more carotenes you eat, the longer you live) which have been shown to be present in primates. The goji berry is easy to eat for people of all ages. It also assists with the digestion of other food. It is considered the number one medicinal herb in Chinese medicine--which has a 5,000 year history of about 8,000 herbs. Useful and accurate by Arid Pip
Here is a practical, informative cookbook focusing on "superfoods", meaning "a food which is rich in essential nutrients, phytochemicals and other beneficial compounds, but that is also healthy in the broadest sense." That means foods like fatty fish, spinach, legumes, apples, yogurt, sweet potatoes, oats and squash. The recipes are clear and practical. I wanted to try some of them immediately. One plus was that there was a large number of vegetarian recipes. Those on a low-salt diet will have to watch out for some ingredients, like bullion cubes, canned beans, and stock, but they are probably well attuned to this issue and substitutions can easily be made (prepared dry beans for canned, etc.)

The book is pretty accurate, especially compared to many faddish healthy food books. I did detect a few things I might quarrel with, but nothing serious or grossly misleading. (Omega-3 fatty acids in pumpkins?? In the seeds yes, but not in pumpkin flesh itself.)

Reading these recipes made me hungry! Pumpkin tacos, anyone?

This book really opened my eyes to what a healthy diet should consist of. I was eating too much meat and animal products in general. The author emphasizes a few times that this is a guide and you don't have to follow it verbatim. So I have tailored it to suit my lifestyle. I am very active but I still was not burning all the kj's I was eating on this diet due to all the energy in the fruit. So I cut down on the fruit and ate more salads (less than 10% fat always). I also continue to eat meat once a week and gluten once a week so I don't become intolerant to them. The things I don't miss in my diet at all are dairy products. I now truly believe they are unnecessary and I now know they were responsible for making me bloated and gassy which i never am anymore.

According to my dietician I am very healthy following this diet and I suppose we will see the long term effects over the years. I can't imagine however that with all the vitamins and minerals (including fats and proteins) in fruits and veges that there will be any negative side effects!

If you are interested in improving your health dramatically and are able to give up your comfort foods slowly but surely, this book is a good start.

I was not a vegan, let alone a raw vegan, before reading this book. Have no worries; there is absolutely ZERO preaching about animal treatments and such. Instead, we get a good and hardcore focus on the food industry, and what changes we can apply for ourselves to be healthier. Following the guidelines of the book, within 2 weeks I ceased being pre-diabetic. My seborrhea, from which I've been suffering for years, vanished almost entirely. My weight dropped nearly 50 pounds in the first 4 weeks. I'll admit that it's a little hard to stick to when going out with friends; yet I see this more as a cultural thing rather than a health/diet thing.

The bottom line is, read this book, follow what it advices. It will change your life, for the better.

A True Must Read By Forrest Wilson
This is a very interesting book, and I am extremely glad it has been written. The strange sounding title refers to the name of an eating plan that derives 80% of total calories from carbs as found in fruit, and 10% each from fat and protein, and does so within a raw vegan framework. Graham's opinion is that this is the optimum and natural diet for human beings and therein lies the premise of this book, and he spends the next 300+ pages convincing the reader why this is so.

To accomplish this, Graham uses mostly common sense arguments and scientific analyses. The former are more effective here, and he peppers the text liberally with them. The combination is a very convincing mix, and I felt ready to dive into a pit of bananas before I had read too far. By the time Graham describes how eating a high-fat diet stresses the adrenals I was both fascinated and reflecting in horror on my past dietary sins.

There are 348 pages here; 170 of them are essay in chapters, and the balance goes to sample menus, nutrient breakdowns, portion equivalents, testimonials, faqs, and so on. These miscellaneous parts do not come across as filler, even the perhaps overly lengthy testimonial section. Graham's writing style is clear and though he engages in repetition at times (for instance when talking about fat and blood sugar) the flow is mainly undisturbed. The end feeling I had was that it was very intelligently laid out and well done. I also appreciate that he doesn't try to sell you anything. (see Dr. Robert Young's books for an example of that!)

I really don't have much to criticize here, I did wonder what stripe of doctor "Dr." Graham is, and some of the menu plans (dinners) seemed a bit complex to coexist with a "mono is best" philosophy. He cites some vague and trivial sources ("a 1999 journal article says..." and "according to a brochure from the Colorado Vegetarian Society..."), and I was left wondering why Dr. Graham recommends eating any "overt" fat at all (given that sweet fruits and greens naturally contain 5% fat). He never gave a reason. Also, he says to eat juicy fruit for breakfast, sweeter fruit for lunch, and I remember something about acid fruits at dinner. Again, he never gave a reason for this. Very minor things in the broader context. I would overlook a great deal more to get to the profoundly worthwhile message of this book..

I guess the most compelling thing about this book is that by the end, the diet proposed within seems like a no big deal, normal, almost. It's like a secret hiding in plain sight. That's amazing considering how truly rare it is to eat in such a way. Go out into the world and you will see it is borderline revolutionary. I have applied these principles and experienced nothing but positive results for myself- If it were not so I would never write such a review. I must say thanks to Dr. Graham for putting this out there for everyone to benefit from.

Update- I have cut out starches and am back on just fruit and greens, and I really feel that fruit based is far superior. It's very obvious, but beware falling into the pattern of drinking giant smoothies at each meal. I really got into this, and built up my capacity to 64-72 oz 2000+ calorie behemoths 3 times a day. I liked them, but I felt I was missing out on actually eating! That whole chewing thing... now I love to just sit with a head of lettuce or spinach and whatever fruit I have and munch them together. I have found that eating a lot of greens at meals and sticking to juicy fruits inbetween meals really helps to keep fruit appealing for dinner. Also, in my early days of 80 10 10 I was really attracted to dense fruits like bananas, dates and dried figs. This is still somewhat true but more and more I feel juicy fruits are where the magic is. I now actually enjoy eating fruit for dinner, and it is easy to get enough calories and feel satisfied all through the night.

It is interesting to see how the diet you eat can impact the rest of your life. Many of my friends, my interests (like fruit trees) and where I live (Hawaii) can all be traced to adopting this, it cannot really be called a "diet" with all the running around I described it is truly a lifestyle. Priorities change, if you are wholehearted, you can be sure that they will, but everything changes for the better. Thanks for reading, and good luck!

I have certifiably read nearly every "raw food" book in existence. I've tried every version of the raw food diet and experiemented greatly. There is no way for me to put into words how enthusiastic I am to have found this book and to tell the world "This is the only one you need." I think to myself, wish I'd just found this one in the beginning! But it's alright, I've found it now and I tell others often.

One of the main reasons this particular book is so compelling is because it's realistic, scientific, theoretic, humble, human and practical all at the same time. You'll get everything from dietary guidelines and menus, to hard science and facts, to personal testimonies and FAQ's, to great useful data about specific foods. And most of all - you will finally understand why we MUST eat all raw foods, which foods are optimal, and how our bodies work. Dr. Graham has an amazing skill of taking a concept (lifestyle) that seems rather "strict" and making it into something that's actually ... the easiest thing you can possibly do. It's a mind shift, a society change, a choice.

I love juicy steaks, delicious cheese, and big bowls of ice cream. I love to eat out at nice restaurants. And I really like eating without thinking about the operations and consequences of our dietary industrial complex. But I don't get to enjoy these things any more because I read the China Study. Like Neo in the movie the Matrix, you have a choice, take the blue pill and believe what you want to believe, take the red pill and you will be exposed to the reality of the world we live in. The China Study is the red pill.

This is a fascinating book on the capitalism, politics, and human behavior that drives the food industry. It is also frighteningly insightful into the health consequences of an affluent societies' diet. I am not a scientist so I don't know if this is good science. But I did work ten years ago as a government attorney on the USDA dietary guidelines and was surprised by the political influence and acceptance of what the author would call scientific reductionism. I also worked for a man who lived and worked until he was 100 years old, and he had a dietary regime very similar to that recommended by the China Study: not vegan nor vegetarian, but largely based on plants and whole foods rather than animal based foods. So I found this book very persuasive - in fact, too persuasive. It scared me straight so I eat healthy now and that's good for the long term...but I don't enjoy it like I used to.

T. Colin Campbell has made a career of challenging the conventional wisdom around nutrition, and this book is the culmination of his work. His integrity, brilliance, and unflinching courage shine through every page. The main point of this book is that most nutritional studies that we hear about in the media are poorly constructed because of what the author terms "scientific reductionism." That is, they attempt to pin down the effects of a single nutrient in isolation from all other aspects of diet and lifestyle.

While this is the "gold standard" for clinical trials in the pharmaceutical world, it just doesn't work when it comes to nutrition. Given that the Western diet is extremely high fat and high protein compared to most of the rest of the world, studies that examine slight variations in this diet (i.e., adding a few grams of fiber or substituting skim milk for full fat milk) are like comparing the mortality rates of people who smoke five packs of cigarettes a day vs. people who smoke only 97 cigarettes a day.

Campbell's research, which he describes in a very accessible and engaging fashion, has two tremendous advantages over the typical nutritional study. First, there is the China Study itself - a massive series of snapshots of the relationship between diet and disease in over 100 villages all over China. The rates of disease differ greatly from region to region, and Campbell and his research partners (including some of the most distinguished scholars and epidemiologists in the world) carefully correlated these differences with the varying diets of the communities. It's not lazy "survey research" either - the researchers don't rely on their subjects' memory to determine what they ate and drank. The researchers also observed shopping patterns and took blood samples to cross-validate all the data.

The second amazing part of Campbell's research method is his refusal to accept any finding without taking it back to his lab and finding out how exactly it works. In other words, we discover in The China Study not only in what way, but precisely how, the foods we eat can either promote or compromise our health.

The book is part intellectual biography / hero's journey (although Campbell is always wonderfully humble - there's no trace of self-congratulation, just a deep gratitude for what he has experienced), part nutrition guide (the most honest and unflinching one you'll ever read), and part expose. The final section leaves no sacred cow standing, and names names! From the food industry, to the government, to academia, Campbell calmly reports on a coverup of nutritional truth so widespread and insidious that all citizens should be enraged.

I have a PhD in health education and a Masters in Public Health - and I can honestly say that no book has shaken my worldview like this one. Anyone interested in health - their own, or that of their family, friends, or community - must read this book and share it. Campbell has started a revolution. Skip this work at your own peril.

You will find The Complete Book of Juicing, Revised and Updated is about more than juicing. It takes a look into the science behind juicing and it's recommendations are clinically and scientifically proven. This book refers to the nutrition from juicing as the base for optimal health and I totally agree with that. It includes information on many diet related diseases and provides information on why diets deficient in certain vitamins, minerals and other vital nutrients, may lead to these diseases.

The three common juicers on the market are listed and information on how they work. I learned how to regulate the ratio of the vegetables to fruits used in my juicing for an optimal level. You are given clear information on which fruits and vegetables are best to use as a base for your juice and what percentage works best.

Personally, I was very happy with information in this book and found it highly informative. As someone who juices occasionally, this book helped clarify many questions I had in regards to juicing. I was also provided with additional information on nutrition that I was not even aware of. If you juice or are are thinking about giving juicing a try, I highly recommend you give this book a read. This is one of those books one should keep on hand as a reference, not only for the great juicing recipes, but also for a quick reminder on all the health benefits behind juicing. Once you've tasted the fruit juice recipes in this book, you'll feel cheated every time you drink bottled, canned or otherwise processed juices from the grocery store. I'll admit I have a sweet tooth so, the fruit juices are what I like most about this book. However, Michael Murray has also packed it with a lot of useful health information. He highlights the link between progressive Westernization of diets and the subsequent rise of modern day plagues like heart disease, cancer and diabetes. The text contains tables of quantitative information and references to reputable scientific publications to support his contentions. In fact, the information convinced me to at least try some of the less palatable-looking vegetable juices; quite a feat, considering that I was never enthusiastic about downing glasses of liquefied parsley, kale or leeks. I was pleasantly surprised. In particular, a concoction called "Cruciferous Surprise" containing cabbage, broccoli, kale, carrots and apples really did turn out to be a shock--a rather tasty one. Despite the fact that I'd consumed a couple of pounds of veggies and fruit in a few gulps, I didn't end up feeling like an overinflated hot air ballon! To be completely honest though, there were a few veggie juice recipes that pickled my palate and left me feeling seasick, but over all, I was quite pleased with the book. Whether you have a medical condition for which you're seeking nutritional support (the chapter on "Juice as Medicine" recommends various fruit and vegetable juices which can be therapeutic for a number of ailments)., looking for ways to improve your diet or simply trying to add something new and exciting to your culinary repertoire, this is a fun and informative book to own.

I have a juicer AND a Vitamix and this book has helped me everystep along the way to changing my eating style effortlessly and smoothly from a burger and grease american style diet to a healthy mix of fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes. I am grateful to have this book and wish I had 25 of them to give to friends and aquaintances who express an interest in improving their health. This is an excellent juicing and nutritional resource. I have learned so much about the value of certain foods that I didn't know before. I have been juicing for four weeks now and I feel so much better, have more energy, lost weight,and my appetite is reduced so I wouldn't miss a day of juicing.

The book outlines which fruits and vegetables you should juice with for certain ailments as well as giving you detailed measurements of the nutritional value of each food so you can determine what you need to juice with so you can add certain nutrients to your diet.
I would highly recommend this book. It's enjoyable reading also.

Hey--I am not a vegetarian, but sure appreciated this book for its multiple qualities and useful info:

a. recipes--main reason I got, combo ones as well as those under individual fruits and vegetables: even teenage son likes "Cruciferous Surprise" (even has broccoli and cabbage, and the surprise ingredient which "soothes" the flavor), which tastes better than its green color, and "Better Red than Dead" (carrot, beet and sweet potato) builds up sun protection, etcetc.. innovative, tasty.

b. fruit and vegetable individual listings, such as carrots,apple, broccoli, listing nutritional components,vitamins, calories, benefits, as well as good tasty combinations for each.

c. benefits of juicing, nutritional primer/info--this may be where some other readers were left cold, as they did not embrace what they perceived as author's vegetarian perspective/agenda. It is handy to read about why juicing (in combination with other food consumption) can be more beneficial than just munching raw or cooked veggies. Well, I am not a vegetarian, and sure still like meat and chocolate!...but one can take what one wants from the book, as in other matters in life. There is a section on juice fasting, as well, for those interested.

Of the several juicing books I had, I wound up actually using this repeatedly, and have given several copies, new and used when I can find them, away over the past couple of years.

I just received my copy of The Complete Book of Raw Food and I love it already! I am new to the raw food movement but very interested in it. I looked around for a book that would be informative but too intimidating and this one definitely caught my eye! In the beginning there are explanations on different preparation methods and things you should know about being raw vegan if you so choose it. Very, very informative and not coming from a judgmental place, if that makes sense. The recipes have varying skill levels which is great for a beginner like me! Overall, I have a feeling this book will get a lot of use in my kitchen!

This one's an encyclopedia. It's a good resource for recipes on the spot but may be overwhelming if you`re starting out. I like to have it on the shelf in case I'm looking to expand ideas but it`s recipes are so literal (an advantage to many) that I prefer to use this to brainstorm my own ideas from rather than to use it each piece. This could apply to all levels of home preservers but I like it best as an on-demand reference as opposed to a manual. (Well Preserved wellpreserved.ca 2011-04-25)

I have several pretty good books about dehydrating foods, but this one is hands down the best I've found! Even if it didn't offer recipes (400 of them!) it would still be an excellent resource for drying foods. When I want to know about a book before buying it, I add it to my Amazon.com "wish list", then request it through my local library. After reading the library copy I decide whether to buy it or just delete if from my list.

The Dehydrator Bible is a definite keeper!

This is a later addition to my review above. There seems to be some confusion concerning the title of the book and what it is actually about. It's literally two books in one: part One gives you the "how-to" for dehydrating, then Part Two offers recipes to use your own dehydrated food.

I still give it 5 stars!

THE DEHYDRATOR BIBLE is exactly what I hoped it would be when I ordered it: An excellent dehydrating reference and recipe book that supplements the brief "getting started" guide that came in the box with my Nesco FD-75PR 700-Watt Food Dehydrator.

The book begins with a clear, easy-to-understand chapter that explains how drying works, how to tell when food is dry enough, how to store dried food properly, and when to rehydrate food. It also includes general troubleshooting tips.

Next, the book has useful charts that tell you how to handle dehydration for specific herbs (e.g., cilantro, mint, parsley), fruits (e.g., cherries, citrus fruits, peaches, pineapple), and vegetables (e.g., asparagus, radishes, sweet potatoes, tomatoes). For each type of produce, the authors discuss preparation (peel, cut into quarters, etc.), drying (how to arrange on trays, what temperature to use), time (hours required for drying), doneness test (e.g., plums should feel dry and leathery), and tips (e.g., blue or Italian plums give the nicest texture). The book has similar charts for beans, tofu, grains, and dairy products. It also includes a chapter on methods for dehydrating meat, poultry, and fish.

The bulk of the book has recipes for cooking "at home" and "on the trail" with dehydrated foods. These recipes are interesting to me, even though I intend to use my dehydrator mostly for fixing fruit snacks, beef jerky, and dried herbs. Should I end up with too many dried peach slices, for example, I can use them to make "Warm Peaches With Ginger". Also, there are a couple of sections of full-color photographs of selected prepared recipes--these, of course, are more or less obligatory in any food book that calls itself a "bible".

The last part of the book briefly discusses other uses for a dehydrator, including making cat and dog treats, crafts items (e.g., Christmas ornaments), and gifts (e.g., soup mix, herb teas). I like this book a lot--it's a useful, encyclopedic kitchen reference to be kept right next to my dehydrator.

We ordered several books on the subject to use with our new Excalibur(best dehydrator out there) and the Dehydrator Bible is the only one we use... easy to read, well organised, and has recipes that are actually good (including treats for our dogs which is worth the book alone). The book is also easy to use as reference when you just want to dehydrate certain foods and need to look up the directions, yet is quite thorough on the basics of dehydrating. The only book you'll need!

Must read for anyone living inside a human body by Alejandro Junger
I had been to medical school for 8 years, done 6 years of postgraduate training and had practiced as a cardiologist for another 8 years before I discovered the teachings of Jeffrey Bland. I am a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Iowa. "This book is a worthwhile investment. I have plenty of raw and living food books, but this one is incredibly good. Very user friendly--explains things clearly and in enough detail for newbies yet provides plenty of easy, healthy recipes for those with more experience. I have made at least 4 things from it and I have only had the book for a week. It has no photos, but is one of those rare cook books that is really fine without them. In fact, I don't think photos would add much. The recipes are not complicated but very flavorful. The raw pumpkin butter is delicious, the almond-garlic pate goes great on the Essene bread. As a Certified Nutrition Specialist, I sometimes have clients gasp when I recommend they choose eggs over cereal for breakfast or include shrimp in their protein intake. I was only interested in the recipes and had to flip through the first half of the book to get to them, but for beginners, that first half offers a lot of information about raw-food eating.

As other readers have mentioned, the recipes are very well organized. You can go according to season, but there are sections for kid-friendly smoothies, dessert smoothies, savory ones and many others; for weight loss, mood, longevity, cellular health, bones and joints etc.

Kristine's Australian raw food friends offer guest recipes, however these require a long list of ingredients and a lot of specific products available through their websites. I haven't bothered with these because the four or five ingredient recipes of Kristine's are more than sufficient.

The back of the book features several informative websites for yet more information and recipes, so you get a lot of value.

The only disappointment is that there is no appendix. I wish ingredients were cross-referenced for easy reference. I'd like to find recipes with what I have on hand or feel like eating, rather than skimming the whole book every time.

Otherwise, in every way, this is a great book".

"This is the tenth green smoothie book I've bought. It's GOT to be my last!

The book opens with with an excellent, easy-to-understand tutorial on everything you need to know about incorporating green smoothies into your diet. This section is not overly long-winded, as in similar books. As might be expected, there is a hard sell towards consuming a high-raw-foods diet. The author discloses her favorite appliance for green smoothies, and it's not one of the two big names in high-speed blenders! She also discusses her favorite brand of superfood, and why.

What I like most about this book is that the author categorizes recipes according to specific benefits. For example, she has some blends meant for enhancing bone health, high-fiber, cardiovascular health, high-antioxidant, low glycemic load, etc. A short introduction to each section explains the author's understanding of said condition which gives rise to how and why the recipes were developed as such. Yes, other authors offer a smoothie for better skin, but it may just be lumped in with other sorts of recipes. There are other types of categories, too, like savory smoothies and dessert smoothies.

Each recipe is meant to render about 1 liter of green smoothie, or two servings. The recipes are way too fruit-heavy for my personal liking. I wouldn't eat that much fruit out of hand. If you're like me and would like to use less fruit, I recommend The Healthy Green Drink Diet: Advice and Recipes to Energize, Alkalize, Lose Weight, and Feel Great I acknowledge that if you're new to green smoothies or want to teach your kids to freak out (and maybe enlighten) their friends, than these recipes would be just the thing!

Most of the recipes have ingredients that are easily found. There is minimal exotica; mostly that green superfood she likes. I also don't believe I can get my hands on a tamarillo. A little bit of maca, yacon syrup, and mesquite powder-very little. If you're not up to using that stuff, you can still get plenty of mileage out of this book.

This book is recommended for beginners switching to a high-raw diet using green smoothies. If you're a veteran at drinking 10-ingredient smoothies from, say, Victoria Boutenko's books, most of these recipes will seem really simplistic. There are separate chapters on the effects of glyconutrients on the immune system,infectious diseases,pregnancy,cholesterol,cardiovascular disease,cancer,chronic disease,arthritis,sports injuries,dental health,natural healing and aging. Are the claims too good to be true? We will find out in due time. Meanwhile, anybody interested in achieving better health will probably benefit from reading this book.The most interesting chapter, in my opinion, is the one written by Dr. Rayburne Goen, a retired cardiologist who began taking glyconutrients seven years ago at age 85 when he suffered from numerous ailments including arthritis, high blood pressure and prostate cancer. His personal testimony is inspirational - to say the least.

I have to admit I am a Bruce Lipton fan of the first order. I believe you will be also after you absorb Bruce's beautiful dance between Science and Experience. "The Honeymoon Effect: The Science of Creating Heaven on Earth" is a handbook on relationships, based on the science of the mind body connection, what Bruce calls "The New Biology". Oh what a different life this would have been if I had grasped this understanding in my youth!

Bruce, better than any one else I have ever known, makes Science seem like common sense, and allows us to see ourselves with a dose of self directed humor. Apparently it is important to understand the four minds involved in every couple. Who Knew? You will read this book again and again, just for the smiles and deeper insights. Yes, Heaven on Earth is possible. It starts with understanding and grows with practice.

I am still reading the book, just really felt moved to post a review now. I am loving Bruce Lipton's style of writing. I can sense his twinkling eyes and bright smile, as I read about scientific principles that used to put me to sleep. Most Quantum Physics books have been so dry and frankly, since they were so left brained, I usually could not read very far. He has an amazing style in combining mind and heart while delivering his message.

His writing is so personal, I feel like I'm sitting in his living room as he revels me/us with his tales. He is genuine and I am learning so much!

At first glance, it is surprising to find the term "science" in the otherwise rhapsodic title of Bruce Lipton's new book. That is, until one realizes that the rightful place for this brilliantly imaginative scientist and author is among the "metaphysical" poets of the 17th century English renaissance like John Donne. What they have in common in their appeal to us is a peculiarly witty way of using metaphor that unites thought and feeling, the "metaphysical conceit" that "links two apparently unrelated fields or subjects in an unusual and surprising conjunction of ideas." Donne, for example, famously compared himself as lover to the travelling arm of a compass, always with his eye on the woman who stood fixed at the center of his regard even as he moved around her, and to that same arm leaning ever more closely toward her the further his distance from her increased.

With even greater precision, Dr. Lipton likens the ideal love relationship he now experiences with his life partner, Margaret, to atoms of "noble gases" so perfectly balanced around their own nuclear centers, so complete in themselves, that they bond only when luminously excited by photons that reach them like epiphanies from beams of light and carry them beyond themselves into one another's ecstatic embrace. Drawn to one another not by codependent need (a deficiency of electrons at the outer ring) but rather by their intersecting surplus outflows of photon radiance, they not only excite one another but amplify one another's light, potentially to laser intensity.

No one reading such a comparison--"my love is like a noble gas"--would accuse Bruce of sentimentality. And yet that's the point. As T.S. I purchased a number of books on juicing after watching the movie "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead". I chose to read this book first because it was written by a physician. I managed to read it over the course of two days and I wasn't disappointed in the content. I found this book to be succinct and informative without being too flakey. The author has great information about what each of the fruits and vegetables will do with respect to health benefits. And she has a number of juice combinations listed in the book to choose from. I will go back to this book from time to time as a reference book. Overall, highly recommended for the beginner.

After a series of weddings and summer holidays of which there was an excessive amount of alcohol and junk food I need to reset my system. While I was not able to do complete juice fasts I was able to integrate 1 meal replacement a day for about a week with the juices and I really feel a lot better. Also it is very difficult for me to loose or gain weight. A few weeks of integrating the juice recipes into my diet helped me loose a few vanity pounds as well as make me feel clean and healthy in general. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in creating juices for specific health concerns or for just general well being.

I was not able to put down this fascinating book that caused me to page back through my own life, looking for past lifestyles and situations that could have dramatically shortened my life. I took so many risks, some of which were very unnecessary. After reading the book I have even more appreciation for my wife, who has helped me settle down into a very responsible lifestyle that is very gratifying and hopefully, as predicted by the authors will also lead to a long life.

It is rare that I read a book cover to cover as I am very busy with my business. But this book I got very personally involved with. Though written by someone with a strong academic background, he wrote it so that a working guy like myself could enjoy it. It is a great book to share with your friends and open up discussion about lifestyle choices and the wisdom or lack of wisdom around those choices. I also believe it may cause people in the health professions to rethink the combination of life skills and attributes for a better life. Educators should put the findings of this book to use restructuring programs based on skills associated with steadiness, responsibility and moderation.

Even though this book does shed light on some interesting myth busters regarding health and well-being, I found the most fascinating part the detective story inside the landmark 80-year study. The authors do a great job of making behavioral science exciting for the non-scientist. You wanted to know how they eliminated one explanation, formed a new hypothesis, tested it, and then refined their explanations for various contributors to death, such as trauma, stress, and neuroticism. The self-assessments were fun and help the reader assess his/her own journey to health. The case studies were great illustrations of main points, and it was fun to read about some really famous people who started out as 12 year old genius kids identified by their teachers as having great potential. Then Dr. Terman pulls them out of their classroom and starts picking their brains for another quarter century. Another impressive aspect of the science is how Friedman, Martin, and a slew of graduate students and colleagues validated half-century old measures on newer samples of people. The statistical archaeology was fascinating! While the final stop is predictable (find your bliss and follow it with conscientiousness and perseverance, and be sure to build social ties along the way), the journey is one you enjoy going on. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in the evolution of scientific thinking, history, health science, and critical thinking regarding popular myths.

The book relates the observations from a long term study of San Francisco gifted students done by Dr. Lewis Terman. It analyzes the major factors found to be relevant, including personality, prudence and persistence, friendliness, happiness, parental divorce, catastrophic thinking, exercise, careers and success, gender, and trauma such as from war. Each chapter contains a test for the reader to discover how he or she rates in the category.

Many of the results were astounding and dispel myths we have about what leads to longevity. For example, the idea that being married correlates with a longer life is much more complex than the surface statement. Men who divorced were thought to live shorter lives not just because they didn't have a wife to take care of them. Divorced men were often found to be less conscientious. And men who were mildly worried and hence conscientious were found to live long regardless of their marital status. So there is, for many of the factors, an external (ex: married or not) as well as an internal (ex: conscientious or not) factor.

Some of the bombshells include: cheerful and optimistic children were LESS likely to live to an old age than their more staid and sober counterparts; being conscientious is one of the major factors in longevity; worrying and stress can actually be GOOD for your health; in interviewing older men, not a single one ever spoke the word DEATH in reference to his own demise; parental divorce often leads to shorter lives; pets don't increase your lifespan; and, as a former teacher, I found this most shocking of all: Kids who go into school at an early age aren't necessary getting a head start--sometimes they develop low self esteem because they are behind their peer, and can have difficulty the rest of their lives!

And of course, not all longevity wisdom had been a myth. The study also confirmed things we already knew, such as having friends you can talk to about feelings will increase your lifespan. Interestingly, however, the size of the social network seems to be more important than the quality of friendships. Also, helping others will make you live longer.

This was a very interesting book and I read it cover-to-cover without reading other books at the same time--it was that engaging! It's relevance is across the board for everyone.

MSM is truly a miracle for pain relief! by A Customer
Dr. Jacob and Dr. Lawrence have provided laymen with a resource that is easy to understand and full of information about our body's processes. I am a 55 year old female suffering from severe osteoarthritis pain from a ski-related injury 15 years ago. I was considering having surgery to alleviate the pain, but heard about MSM from a friend, and then found this book which gave me the facts I needed. After only one week of taking the crystals (5 grams per day), my pain was almost eliminated. I have continued taking MSM for two months now, increased to 8 grams per day with 1500mg of glucosamine sulfate daily, and have reduced my use of NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) to 1 per day from 3. I hope to completely eliminate the NSAID soon. My range of motion has improved so much that I am able to ride my horse in the mountains, climb stairs, jog, etc., all without pain! Thanks for the miracle!

Best book on MSM by far ... by Beth Jennings
This title by Drs. Jacob and Lawrence is by far the best word on MSM (along with product manufacturers dmso2.com etc).
I, also, prefer the hardback version of this book. It is out of print but I found that it is still available at the distributor (msmsupplement.com as mentioned by someone in another review).

I hope that there is a new, updated version of this book on the horizon, because I know that MSM is helping so many people with a variety of problems (e.g. Arthritis, Allergies, Energy, Joint and Muscle & Nerve Pain, Skin Conditions ...). I even give it to my dogs and cats now!
By the way, Dr. Lawrence (on of the authors) is the doctor of the famous actor James Coburn. Mr. Coburn now attributes his recovery from crippling arthritis pain to benefits derived from MSM.

This Is One To Believe by "earl7pearl"
These two MDs have a total of some 90 years in practice and have used MSM for their patients, themselves and their families including their children, for over 20 years. This book is really a compilation of their successes, improvements and yes, they admit about 70% improvement and about 30% of no improvement. BUT, those that did not improve, were no worse off than they were before. I appreciate their honesty and they have a section that affirms or denies some claims that have been made. This is believeable. I am experiencing about a 75% improvement in my prior discomfort.

MSM is wonderful for me. I have taken MSM for nearly 2 years now (off and on). I would quit taking it, just to see what would happen. It wouldn't take long before my pain and stiffness would return to my knees. I wouldn't want to go through life without MSM. I am able to go through life without pain in my knees when I take MSM on a regular schedule. I have had no problems taking MSM and I take 12,000 mg. a day. I use a powder MSM that I put in my water, which also encourages me to drink the water I need daily. I even use a MSM soap and lotion for my skin. It has helped my skin alot. I can't say enough good things about MSM. This is the first book I bought about MSM and would recommend it to anyone. I've also read many other papers and articles on MSM, plus I've read alot on the internet about MSM. In fact I've bought this book to give to other people. Definitely worth reading by A Customer
What I liked best about this book was its honesty. It says MSM is a miracle for some, while for others it does nothing at all. MSM is recommended for rheumatoid arthritis, which I have, and I find it does not help with pain or inflammation. But it does give me more energy. And as side benefits, my hair grows incredibly fast and my allergy symptoms are not as severe.

Environmentally concerned and witty as well., by ChristineEllenNYC
I was seeking a book on environmentalism and in particular a more first-person perspective on it, only without the sentiment and Romantic sensibility. I love Thoreau, and he has plenty of sparkling cobwebs for our appreciation, but he also reflects on dead mules, bean fields, and ice bubbles. The wide-ranging mind focused on environment is the draw. I tried very many books, including the much-loved "12 by 12." For my tastes, there were simply too many sparkling cobwebs, perhaps too few dead mules and ice bubbles. I might be a cynic. More likely, I grew up on a rural farm, and although I appreciate the glory of sunlight on snow, I also know that when your heat comes from a small Franklin stove, you're not all about the glitter. You're even willing to singe a nightgown to get a spot by the stove.

I wanted something other than Romantic reflection on nature. I tried the "witty" books "farewell my Subaru" (witty, but maybe wearingly witty?) and "up a creek without a paddle" (a home in Hawaii with all the amenities is off the grid, really?). This book by Boyle was my final selection, and I highly recommend it. He offers a coherent theory for his economic and environmental practices, has a witty voice (my favorite being his "personal ad" for dating while moneyless), and combines both in wonderful sidebars that explain in detail how to make your own paper and ink from common plants (he knows that you are unlikely to do this). Finally, the free cycling movement about which he educates readers really has had an impact, as he shows in his final page listing websites for freecycling, skillsharing, and freegan activities in most major cities. Even though the freegan lifestyle is unlikely to become a mass movement, Boyle's self-deprecating, detailed, clear, and compelling case study is a great read with long-lasting benefits.

Living in this consumerist society it is refreshing to have Mark's insightful and inspiring account of his time living without money. I was both impressed by his commitment to live by his values, but also by the down to earth non-judgemental way he went about it - there was no sense of a 'holier than thou' attitude, rather the book was humourous and self-deprecating as it told of his numerous adventures living without money. I'd highly recommend this book - it is unique and will broaden the mind as to what is possible.

This really isn't a review on the book, but rather on the supplement MSM. I have taken many supplements off and on throughout my life, but MSM is the supplement I get the most benefits from and is my favorite. I have taken it every single day without fail for the last 21 years. It's a keeper and I wouldn't be without it. It helps me with joint and muscle pain and has given me complete relief from a lifetime of summer pollen allergies. Also my hair and nails grow fast while I'm taking this and my skin looks youthful. I suggest you NOT take this supplement in the evening. It gives you energy and will keep you awake all night. Also it is recommended you take Vitamin C with MSM to get the most benefits from it (or drink citrus juice with it). If you have trouble swallowing pills, know that MSM is usually in a large capsule, but it is sold in powder form and is virtually tasteless when added to juice or water. I put the powder in my dogs' water bowl for skin and joint issues. I've only named a few benefits of MSM. I recommend you read this book, you will be amazed at what one supplement can do! I'm planning to order this book for family and friends to read, since they are tired of hearing ME rave about MSM :) I have other books by Earl Mindell, and know this one will be good too.

    Since that landmark report from C. Everett Koop (and even before, depending on the circles you run in), Americans have been following one diet craze after another not only in an attempt to drop the excess baggage most of us are carrying around but also as a way to find our way back to good health. The result? We (as a country) are fatter than ever. And we're certainly no healthier.

    The problem is that while diet is the key not only to slimness but also to overall health and well-being, it has to be a diet that properly balances our body chemistry. But each and every one of the diets Americans have tried—including not just the "average American diet" but also such supposedly healthful regimens as low-fat diets, the food pyramid, and vegetarianism — create wildly imbalanced body chemistry. Even if one way of eating does get rid of extra pounds (usually temporarily) or lower cholesterol levels or lessen digestive trouble for some people, it does not fulfill the promise of simple good health. We're so used to our modern medical machinery, in fact, that good health seems anything but simple. I'm here to tell you: It is simple.

    Forget cholesterol counts. Forget calories and fat grams. Forget blood pressure, blood sugar, hormone levels, or any of the other markers of health you're used to at the doctor's office. It turns out that the single measurement most important to your health is the pH of your blood and tissues—how acidic or alkaline it is. Different areas of the body have different ideal pH levels, but blood pH is the most telling of all. Just as your body temperature is rigidly regulated, the blood must be kept in a very narrow pH range—mildly basic or alkaline. The body will go to great lengths to preserve that, including wreaking havoc on other tissues or systems.

    The pH level of our internal fluids affects every cell in our bodies. The entire metabolic process depends on an alkaline environment. Chronic over acidity corrodes body tissue, and if left unchecked will interrupt all cellular activities and functions, from the beating of your heart to the neural firing of your brain. In other words, over acidity interferes with life itself. It is (as we'll see in more detail in the next chapter) at the root of all sickness and disease.

    If that's not enough to get you interested in balancing your body pH naturally, nondestructively, keep this in mind: Over acidity is also what's keeping you fat (more about that later).

    The goal, then — and what this program allows you to do — is to create the proper alkaline balance within your body. The way to do that is by eating the proper balance of alkaline and acid foods. That means 80 percent of your diet must be alkalizing foods, like green vegetables. (That percentage will go down somewhat once you've successfully rebalanced yourself.) That leaves much smaller portions of acid foods (such as meat and grains) on our plates. In addition, carefully chosen, high-quality supplements will help you achieve and maintain pH balance. You'll learn more about all this in detail in later chapters.

    That's it. That's all there is to it. Get at least three-quarters of your plate covered with alkalizing food, use the supplements as explained in The pH Miracle, and you'll be good to go.

    The following chapters get into the details of why, and the remainder of the book shows you specifically what and how. People who are well, whole, and energetic again. People like Sharon and her husband. I'll let her tell their story:

    I was up to a record 192 pounds. I was depressed and tired and had attempted almost every diet known to humankind. I would lose weight and then gain it right back when I returned to my old eating habits. I became more and more discouraged. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired—and fat! I knew it was time to make some major lifestyle changes.

    So, once again I stepped onto the diet roller coaster by going to a local weight loss organization. It worked for the first few months. I lost thirty-two pounds, traded in my diet sodas for water, and started to exercise. I thought I might really have the problem licked this time.

    At this same time, my husband applied for a life insurance policy. The findings of the company's physical exam scared us to death. His cholesterol was practically off the charts at 340. He had fatty growths in his shoulder. He was at his heaviest ever, too: 227 pounds. For someone who is five-nine, that's quite a load to carry around. The report made him out to be a walking time bomb. An accident waiting to happen. Just like me, he realized he needed to make some serious changes. But he was confused about what and how.

    Before he could take action, we moved into a new house and went on a vacation. I went back to my old eating habits, stopped exercising, and regained twenty of the thirty-two pounds I had lost. When things settled down again and we realized we had to take action, that's when The pH Miracle came into our lives.

    We shared the same first thought: How on earth could we change our lifestyle so drastically? And the same second thought: We had to try. That night we committed to the program—and immediately headed over to a favorite local restaurant to pig out on our last barbecued pork ribs and mud pie. The next morning we changed our diets— and changed our lives. We've never looked back.

    My husband's cholesterol dropped to 242 in six weeks, and is now under 200. He had been experiencing arthritis in the hips and had been thinking about surgery. But the pain has disappeared! For the first time in my life, I'm not depressed. I'm no longer a compulsive eater; no longer do I eat until I get sick—and then eat some more. I'm not a slave to my addiction to sugar and breads. Now the foods I crave are avocados and soybeans. We both would still like to lose a few more pounds, but we don't worry about it anymore. We know our bodies will reach an optimum weight. And we'll never regain it because we no longer crave the foods that made us sick, tired, and fat in the first place.

    It turns out the weight loss is almost a side benefit. What we've really gotten out of this is feeling better. Our minds and bodies are stronger. We no longer feel sick and tired all the time. Even our relationship has benefited. We have a more fulfilling life. We can more fully enjoy the best things in life—mainly, our kids.

    Speaking of our kids, we are now gradually working them into the program, too. They've been raised on fast food and pizza, candy bars and soda pop. And they've been addicted to sugar, bread, and meat—and been tired, obese, and depressed as a result, just like so much of their generation. Who would have thought they would ever be drinking green vegetable juice for breakfast? We feed them healthy meals, and they take supplements as well. They still have some sugar now and then, but we know this is not an overnight process. The whole family is headed in the right direction.

    Robert Louis Stevenson wrote: "There will come a time when we will sit down to the banquet of our consequences."
    We were. And we are. I like this way much better.

    Besides the huge volume of tales like this one — which I'll share more of throughout the book — I've seen the scientific proof of such transformation with my own eyes, though nothing is more persuasive than the radical changes in people's everyday lives. I've observed thousands of blood samples, including pH levels, from people all over the world, and seen the transformation that occurs — right down to the individual cells—when people change the way they eat.

    HOW WE CAME TO EAT THIS WAY

    All this healing occurs because people are willing to take responsibility for their own health and make the necessary changes. That was a mission Shelley and I were on for ourselves starting over twenty years ago. But it took quite a while to realize that what seemed in popular thought to be optimal was still leaving us tired, seemingly prone to every passing cold, and just not able to get the very best out of life. Eventually, through trial and error—experimenting on ourselves—we developed The pH Miracle program, and found, finally, the way to get fully, permanently, holistically healthy-physically prepared to live life to its fullest.

    We had always been active, and on the lookout for ways to improve our health. By 1980, we were on what we thought was an ideal strictly vegetarian regime-mostly complex carbohydrates, along with some simple carbs (sugars), proteins, and fats. We were conforming to what seemed to be the best possible nutrition for our bodies and raised our children this way.

    We ate the best of all foods sold in our favorite health food stores. Yet still we felt that afternoon fatigue. Our athletic endurance seemed to have plateaued, and we weren't getting any further improvements. We didn't have the strength and stamina we wanted. We were slowly but surely getting one common sign of aging after another. And it all seemed to be getting worse as we grew older.

    What we didn't know then was what havoc all this was wreaking on our body chemistry, how it dangerously acidified our bodies, inviting all the disastrous consequences explained in upcoming chapters. Thank goodness the whole family had stayed generally healthy, but with what we know now we can see we were lucky. We were setting ourselves up for a lot of potential trouble.

    It took a long time to realize what was going on—and what we could do about it. When we did figure it all out, what a dramatic difference! For one thing, though neither of us was overweight to begin with, we both shed pounds. I lost about twenty pounds — and four inches around my waist. Shelley dropped about fifteen pounds, and is now the same size she was in high school (nine). More important, we felt much better. Not only that, but I also could see astounding changes in our blood, including the pH levels. One good thing about the roughly fourteen-year journey we went through in developing this program was that it gave me time to come to some new (to me) laboratory techniques with which I could chart our progress (which I'll describe more fully later in the book).

    Since we were essentially healthy to start out with, I was eager to test the effects of the dietary changes we were making on people facing serious health challenges, such as diabetes, cancer, obesity, heart disease, lupus, gout, and arthritis. Sure enough, in my studies I could see the same sweeping improvements in their blood. They all reported feeling better and losing weight. And in many cases, even the dire conditions healed or disappeared! Witnessing these amazing results, I knew we'd stumbled upon more than a way of eating that just happened to be right for us and our family. We'd found something we wanted to share.

    We've been fully on The pH Miracle diet for more than five years now, and there's no doubt in our minds: We'll never go back. We've gained too much we'd never want to give up. Even as we get older, we keep feeling better. And we know we're protecting ourselves from the ravages of the diseases that claim so many of our fellow Americans. "This is my third raw food cookbook trial, but only the second one I actually want to use. The first was the Raw 50, which didn't capture my attention, the second was Ani's Raw Food Kitchen, which offers simpler recipes that I found some natural appeal in, and now I find myself with this book in my hands, wishing I had discovered something like it many years ago.

I don't think I am uncommon in my foodie ambitions. I want to eat healthier, enjoy good food, and not feel too restricted by any particular diet. I am intrigued by the raw diet, but nowhere near ready to dive in head first. I currently enjoy a salad and a smoothie almost daily, but raw food is still on the lesser half of my diet. It would be great to start incorporating some more raw snacks and the occasional raw meal, but it seems many raw cookbooks are filled with (numerous) sales pitches for the raw diet and time-consuming recipes instead of practical guides and easy recipes that will safely appeal to newbie taste buds.

The Raw Food Revolution does start by explaining the health benefits of the raw diet, especially from a weight loss perspective. Yet, the book moves on to explain how to get the nutrients you need, the types of food and equipment you will use, and starter menus. All in all, the introduction is 100 pages, and well worth every sentence. Then, the recipes begin .

The recipes are very unintimidating and any potential questions that a newbie or veteran may have about an ingredient or process are addressed right then and there. But, what I found most fascinating about this cookbook is that it truly isn't focused on being 100% raw. The authors encourage and even aid readers in easing into the raw food diet by offering "almost raw" techniques and emphasizing that it isn't essential to demand that every single ingredient is raw, particularly when first starting out. For this reason, the recipes are not surprisingly a bit more appealing from both a taste and preparation perspective.

I just recently received the book, but have already ear-marked at least thirty recipes that I want to trial. On the tops of that list are the Mangoes in Lemon-Ginger Sauce, Basic Nut Cheese, Apples and Walnuts on Baby Greens w/ Poppy Seed Dressing, Broccoli with Bon Bon Sauce (I do love broccoli!), Figgie Nutins' and Carob-Banana Pudding. I immediately made the Banana Endurance Drink, which according to the author balances potassium-rich bananas and sodium-rich celery (yeah, celery, but I decided to chance it) to replenish electrolytes and energize muscles. I added a generous dash of nutmeg to my servings, which I think rounded this tasty, yet simple beverage out nicely!

Though many raw cookbooks claim it is okay to gradually become raw, their recipes, tips, and pitches take on 'all or nothing' or nothing air. It was refreshing to discover this nutrition-first cookbook which I am sure will actually help this avid home baker to increase her raw food intake (at least a bit) rather than running in the other direction to a pile of fresh-from-the-oven cookies."

About the Author
Wendy Rudell has spent the last 35 years living a very healthy lifestyle and pursuing her interest in all the healing arts. After working as head chef of a large vegetarian restaurant in British Columbia, Canada, and attaining a teaching degree, she became a coordinator and instructor for a Pritikin program in Maui that focused on reducing the effects of degenerative diseases. From 1984 to 1990, she owned and operated a raw food product manufacturing and distributing company on the the island Kauai.

Returning to the continent, Rudell attained a teacher training degree in Hatha yoga from the Vancouver Yoga Institute and later studied Ashtanga yoga for three years. She graduated from the Arica Institute as a trainer, and became a licensed massage therapist and practiced in Hawaii for 12 years. She also worked as a qualified colon therapist, gourmet raw food chef, and yoga instructor at the Tassa Hanalei Retreat Center on Kauai for 3 years.

At the Optimum Health Institute in San Diego, California, Rudell implemented a complete program of lifestyle changes designed to teach guests how to live a raw foods lifestyle when they returned home. This included teaching gourmet raw food cuisine, theory and application, breath work, yoga, meditation, and nutrition. Rudell currently lives in Cabo San Lucas, where she provides a similar program at a health resort, integrating bio energetic medicine with the other modalities.

I Love all three of Jeremy's cookbooks and use them in my kitchen 85% of the time now. As a recent convert to gluten free vegan I can eat nearly everything in his books making meal planning super easy. The recipes are tasty, and not too time consuming or complex to use for everyday cooking. The back section in which he gives formulas for adapting your own... salads, wraps, pizzas, etc. suits my husband's non-recipe cooking style easily. Each book is filled with new and tasty recipes. I highly recommend them.

Recipes are Very simple but Very tasty. I have been in a cooking rut for awhile now, and a fellow vegetarian turned me onto the Revive Cafe cookbooks. Everything this friend makes is outstanding, and much of it is from, or inspired by, the recipes in the Revive series (she owns all three books and gives them frequently as gifts because they're that good). The end-product is truly restaurant quality flavor. I am eating a raw cabbage salad as i type which is a spin off of one of the recipes in this book and it is delish! I am so happy I got this book. There is a fantastic section in the back that gives you some basic things you can prepare ahead of time and keep on hand to cut down on prep-time for the recipes in the book (like date puree for sweetener and onion relish for cooking, salad dressing, sauces). I highly recommend this book to both the novice and veteran vegetarian cook.

Easier and more profound than ever., by Charles Franz
With the help of the knowledge that you will find between the covers of The Secret of Quantum Living, the third book from Frank Kinslow, there's a great chance that your life will be transformed. Not the wild, rollercoaster ride kind of transformation, but a gentle and peaceful kind that brings joy to all parts of life.

I have explored a number of healing techniques and have seen many interesting and pleasing results from all of them. Nothing, however, has impressed med quite as much as the method dr Kinslow has developed. Nausea and sickness getting replaced by a sense of peace, Fibromyalgia pain vanishing in minutes and severe calcification and deformation of a persons back and neck normalising over night, after twelve years of constant pain - a few examples from the past few months. But spectacular healing events aside, the most important part seems to be the sense of peace and wellbeing that comes with the application of this method. I've had the pleasure of meeting mr Kinslow and he seems to emit a sort of strange wellbeing that inspires healing in the people he encounters. Read this book and find out what it's all about. A hint: It's about doing nothing and watching everything getting done for you, leaving you laughing in the process.

I am awestruck at how easy this system is, and is by far more effective and powerful than the energy healing work i used to do...and that was awesome!

I was able to master the technique in two evenings of just following the directions in the book. I soon began to help others with it, as the author aptly suggests, and found a lot of feed-back returning to me from people saying that little "miracles" were showing up in their lives, on many levels. I am trying to maintain a list, but it's hard to keep up!

My only criticism is that the way the theory is presented in this book gets way too convoluted. Funny, though, when my mind was just preparing to snap, over it, Dr. Kinslow pretty much wrote not to worry about it, because the tech will work anyway! He also has a video out on YouTube that explains it simply and clearly!

QE, added to two or three other mainstays in my life, let me know that a human can reach full potential in one life-time and make a huge difference in their world, powerfully and pleasurably! Yes there ARE short-cuts in life, and this is one of them! Thank you Dr. Kinslow!

It’s my aim for you, by reading this book and understanding the hows and why’s of drinking Superfruit juices, that you will seek out and receive the wonderful benefits available and the share this knowledge with your family and friends.

How did the debacle start where wholesome, natural treatments were dismissed for chemical medicines? Why is there a moral division as to who has the right answers: orthodox or alternative medicine? And why can’t two roads meet?


Prior to ‘modern medicine’, mankind had only its natural surroundings to derive healing remedies from – and mostly, people survived! The Medicine Man, the Elders and the grandparents knew the secrets; they had the power to care and people sought their wisdom.


As mankind matured, they learnt how to derive the actual medicinal component from the plants, through concoctions, balms and crude extraction methods Emerging scientists, Doctors and the ‘Amazing Fix-It-All Potion’ caravan entrepreneurs possessed the secrets. They too had power to care, but also the power of ‘share’ – the latter with a price!


Today pharmaceutical companies are very much wealth driven. If a natural therapy or substance is not patentable, then frequently drug companies will contradict its validity – that is, until the medicinal component has been extracted, mimicked, altered, synthesized and reproduced. Then they have the financial interest to begin supporting it.


Unfortunately doctors are targeted by pharmaceutical companies, where a financial incentive or gift is awarded for the prescription of their medicine.  Obviously not all Doctors are so easily romanced, however a prescription for a natural alternative treatment certainly does not have the same multinational power to flatter.


I believe Drug prescriptions can sometimes be replaced by non-drug, natural alternatives. Yet as GP’s have a duty of care to their patients, they will always prescribe what has been approved by their authorities.


As new research emerges, confirming the efficacy of naturally derived, medicinal treatments, it is only a matter of time until patients will have the option for ran alternative therapy, as will doctors have the proof to prescribe.


Currently the public is readdressing the age old wisdom concerning natural plant therapies. As being revealed by modern science, potent healing properties already exist in everyday fruits, vegetables and herbs, and there are extraordinary benefits obtainable from Superfruits too.


In my career as a Health and Fitness Consultant, I quickly changed from merely instructing people to get fit, to actually educating them why they should get healthy. For when clients were simply instructed to “eat this food” or “exercise as shown”, they became disempowered, causing long-term reliance on the trainer.


Once a person understands the value of food and deliberate movement, this informed knowledge becomes a powerful tool to make positive lifelong and self-empowered changes.


It’s my aim for you, by reading this book and understanding the hows and why’s of drinking Superfruit juices, that you will seek out and receive the wonderful benefits available and the share this knowledge with your family and friends.


There are other Superfruits that are not listed in this manuscript, but are currently being tested by science and exposed by cultural application. This is a great book. There are many uses of clay that I would not know about if I did not read the book. I enjoyed the stories in the book which are true. I also enjoy all the research the author has done. The way to prepare water for the clay is hard to do, but I understand it needs to be done. The author had great results with a variety of diseases and getting people well. I highly recommend this book.

Part of me thinks the beginning was a little silly- he offered fiction stories (based on fact?) to demonstrate some uses of the clay. I thought they were cute, but know that in so doing some people may think his credibility is undermined... But when you got to his research it was very well done. I would very much like the sequel to come out!
